Mexico III – Dining hall Comedor Santa Maria
| Project description In Mexico City many children and teenagers are living in extremely poor conditions and many of them hardly have enough to eat. By establishing dining halls Comedor is making the first step to providing nutritional food once a day which is rich in vitamins. The children suffer from physical and mental illnesses resulting from malnutrition, bad living conditions or violence within the family. The supported children are chosen in cooperation with local agencies and their close contacts with families in need according to specific criteria such as income groups, proximity to establishment etc. Additionally, Comedor provides treatment and weekly educational discussions on values, discipline, responsibility, hygiene, etc. The mothers are also involved in the project process by cooking, cleaning or shopping for groceries. The goal of this project is to acquire and to establish further Comedor Santa Maria institutions in Mexico City. There are currently eight institutions, two of which are still under construction. When these two establishments have been constructed, then the basic needs of these children can be guaranteed.
