Project Description
Many developing countries have made huge efforts to expand their school systems, and to at least make it possible to provide an elementary school education. However, there are many parents that do not have the money necessary for school costs, such as stationary and books. Their children stay at home and work for the family. The school system is still lacking in many developing countries. It is often the case that the school is too far away, in a bad condition, and that the classes are too big.
Unless they attend school, the people have almost no chance to overcome poverty and to better their quality of life. Education means to be able to read and write. Once they can do this, they will then have access to information and job opportunities that those without education do not have. 

Lyoness Education Program
The goal of the Lyoness Education Program is that the children and youths not only learn to read, write and do maths, but also learn about practical things such as nutrition, health and agriculture, and to prepare for a practical career.

Through the building of the Lyoness Foundation School, not only will the children and youths receive a basic education, but adults will also have the possibility to attend evening courses to repeat their education, or to learn a practical career. The school buildings will be a place to receive an education and will also be a social meeting place for the residents of the community.

The Lyoness Child & Family Foundation also wants to ensure that the children and youths not only receive a traditional school education, but also learn social competence. Values such as a sense of community, friendship, self confidence, helpfulness, diligence and accepting responsibility will play a big role.

On the 28th of November 1993 the Medical Centre La Ceiba was entered in the company register of the Canton of Zurich and recognised by the Department of Internal Affairs (EDI). The Medical Centre La Ceiba, in Honduras, was founded by Mrs Doris Eggenberger from Buchs. The Medical Center La Ceiba was built in 1998 in the seaport La Ceiba, in Honduras. A year later, on the 21st of May 1999, the building was opened. However, the hospital area was only opened on the 26th of June 2000. The hospital cares for 60% paying, and up to 40% non-paying, patients in the La Ceiba area.

Status
On Saturday the 26th of June, the Lyoness Child & Family Foundation, together with the Switzerland Stiftung Medical Center La Ceiba, started their school project “Escuela Lyoness“ in La Ceiba, Honduras. Despite heavy rainfall in the morning, many children from the catchment area El Peru La Ceiba, came to help the Child & Family Foundation lay the foundation stone for the new school, which they did with great enthusiasm! Once this education centre is completed, the children will have hope for a much brighter future.
